Mads do & Mend CIC
To empower people and communities to mend their clothes and mend themselves through craft and creativity..
Through Mads do & Mend CIC our aim is to teach people the skills to mend their clothing and textiles. By teaching you how to mend what you own, we can create connections with each other, be creative and also consider the global impact mending can have on the world and the communities who live in it.
Mending Projects
Through the &Mend Clothing Repair Station, and my training as a Mental Health First Aider, I devise community projects via funding opportunities and partner with other organisations to bring mending to the wider public as a low cost and accessible creative skill that is particularly relevant in today’s environment as we question the global impact of the fast fashion industry. Mending gives people practical skills on an individual level, whilst also offering cost -saving outcomes as we can learn different skills to mend what we already own. If we keep textiles in circulation for longer we impact through engagement in a ‘slow’ craft that can also bring us time and space to reflect, and offer a safe space to have supported conversations without judgment.
“By encouraging through the practical craft of sewing, mending, and renewal we can dramatically reduce our own textile consumption and work towards more sustainable practices..”
